Additional Question A

Bored, you tie a rock (500 g) to a string (1.02 m) and spin it in a vertical circle. (a) What is the tension in the string when the rock is at the bottom of its motion traveling at 7.5 m/s? (b) What is the tension in the string when the rock is at the top of its motion traveling at 4.0 m/s?  Please remember to thank energy conservation for the velocities when we arrive in chapter 10.

A 1000 kg steel beam is lifted by a cable attached to a large crane.  Starting from rest the beam travels 10 meters upward while experiencing a constant acceleration of +1.0 m/s^2.   

(a) How much work does gravity do on the beam?
